Nurses can obtain an ECA for their immigration purposes from the IRCC designated agencies. However, for a nurse to practise in Canada, they must go through the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) to assess their academic qualifications. The organization verifies and compares internationally educated nurses’ credentials with what is obtainable in the Canadian education system. The service is available to Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs). In addition, the organization forwards completed reports to the nursing regulatory bodies showing the applicant’s employment, proof of license/registration, and validity of applicant’s credentials.
Language ability is often a limiting factor for studying in Canada or qualifying to many skilled immigrant programs. However, under the regular study permit application stream, a prospective student is not required to show proficiency through language test results. On the contrary, a student applying to obtain an expedited study permit through the Student Direct Stream (SDS) program must submit a valid language test result.
